Dr Steve Portugal, The University of Oxford

Dan starts his PhD next week, and will be investigating how physiology and individual personality traits interact with collective behaviour in birds (more to follow). Dan is co-supervised by Dr Dora Biro (Oxford) and Dr Emily Shepard (Swansea).

I have an article out in Biosphere Magazine about our Secretary Bird work that was published earlier in the year in Current Biology. Subscibers to the magazine can read the full article on the Biosphere website.

I have an article about migration out in the BTO (British Trust for Ornithology) magazine – free to all members.

Our (with Emily Shepard) special issue on Flight is out today, as a theme issue of Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B. You can access the issue on the link below. Within that is a paper I did in collaboration with Prof Magella Guillemette that looks at how heat dissipation in migrating eider ducks may limit their daily flight time.

Busy week at the SEB. Egg Conference and talk went well Sunday, Moving in Groups talk Monday, and tomorrow an evening public outreach lecture at Cafe Scientifique. Fun and suitably knackered.

Our paper about heat dissipation during migratory flights in eiders has been accepted in Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B, and should be out towards the end of next month!!
